Polar Nature Science News is an independent, nonprofit English-language publication devoted to the Arctic and Antarctic.
Polar Nature exists to make the science of the poles legible to a global audience. We publish original, English-language articles on Arctic and Antarctic wildlife, climate, geography, and expedition history, with a bias toward primary sources, long time-series, and the researchers who spend actual seasons on the ice. Our editorial voice is calm, technical without being airless, and deliberately free of political framing.
The founding editors met on a summer science-communication residency and shared a frustration: the polar regions were either treated as a backdrop for adventure content or as an accelerant for climate outrage cycles. Neither approach respected the people, animals, or physical systems involved. Polar Nature was built as a slower reader — one that assumes its audience is curious, patient, and capable of handling nuance.
Every article on Polar Nature is original and written specifically for this site. We prioritise peer-reviewed literature, open datasets, and interviews with active researchers. When we report on breaking news, we anchor the story in the underlying science rather than the press release. We do not accept advertising, do not run affiliate links, and do not carry sponsored content.
Polar Nature is maintained by a small volunteer editorial group with backgrounds in glaciology, marine biology, and science journalism, supported by contributors around the world. Readers are welcome to submit corrections, story suggestions, and field observations through our Contact page. Serious pitches from working scientists and photographers are especially welcome.
